Carmelo Anthony, ten-time NBA All-Star, entrepreneur, executive producer and philanthropist, and his longtime business partner Asani Swann announced CREATIVE 7, the global, multi-platform content company which will develop and produce original, premium content spanning documentaries, scripted television, feature film, animation, podcasts, and more. Spurred by a passion for inclusive, purpose-driven storytelling, Anthony and Swann established the company to champion the narratives and voices that for too long have gone unheard.
“We are excited to finally announce Creative 7 and share the purposeful projects we have been dedicated to developing over the past 2 years,” said Anthony. “Asani and I founded Creative 7 because we both share a passion for creating original content that will give a voice to the silenced, advocate for the underserved, and celebrate the resilience of the human spirit. We are in a time of profound transformation so we believe it is more important than ever to spotlight the individuals and the stories that will uplift the world and inspire lasting change. Having the opportunity to develop these narratives alongside award-winning filmmakers and creatives has been an honor and inspired us to take our creativity to new heights.”
In continuing his legacy into entertainment and content creation with Creative 7, Anthony’s hands-on approach and dedication to storytelling with impact—in combination with Swann’s eye for narrative acquisition—comes to life in each project, unique in nature but united in the mission to serve as a catalyst for something more. Helmed by Anthony and Swann, Creative 7 is a force propelling groundbreaking, uplifting—and, at times—heartbreaking stories for change to a global audience. The company is already in partnership with prolific Hollywood heavyweights on a robust slate of projects that speak to the evolution of the human spirit through adversity, social activism and compelling, entertainment-forward storytelling.
“In addition to collaborating with legendary filmmakers and paramount creative minds in the industry, we are excited to also be working with and championing emerging talent who are positioned to be the next great generation of filmmakers,” said Swann. “At the core, our goal is to amplify unheard voices and groundbreaking stories that push the envelope and will leave a profound impact. As a Black woman, I am proud to co-found a company like Creative 7 that celebrates diversity and inclusion and will strive to push representation in this industry forward.”
Anthony and Swann’s Creative 7 has already secured key industry partnerships, including one with Hollywood’s record-breaking filmmaker Will Packer of Will Packer Productions on a narrative series about the famous professional athletes who define culture, but forever remain on the periphery of true power in the multibillion-dollar industries their talent built.
Creative 7 is also teaming with award-winning producers Plan B Entertainment on a limited narrative series. Said Plan B, “We are excited to work with Carmelo, Asani, and the team at Creative 7, and look forward to sharing more about the project soon.”
Further solidifying the slate’s initial rollout is a special narrative project with “Get Out” and “BlackKklansman” Producer Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick’s production company, Impossible Dream Entertainment on the chilling true story of the “Jersey 4”, and the famous racial profiling case the country could no longer ignore. Creative 7 has also partnered with Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jonathan Hock and his production house Hock Films on an exciting project to be announced later this spring.
The company has quietly produced and is currently producing a number of previously-announced projects as well, including “Blood Brothers”, a limited series in partnership with A+E Studios, Executive Producer Charles Murray, and Narrative Film Group that examines the friendship between two of the most dynamic and iconic figures in history: Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X; “Un Sueño Real”, a recently launched docuseries with HBO España, Exile Content Studio, and Newtral that gives an inside look at the women’s Real Madrid soccer team and takes viewers on a journey through the blood, sweat, tears, and victories of a special group of women who became part of one of the most legendary soccer clubs in history; as well as “Universe”, an IDA Award-winning documentary about Miles Davis’ protégé, Wallace Roney, who recently passed but lives on through his inspiring journey to uphold his mentor’s legacy and record “The Universe Compositions,” a landmark suite of orchestral jazz originally written for Miles Davis. Additional key projects will be announced in months to come that aim to forever change the entertainment landscape and push culture and unheard narratives forward.
As co-founder of Creative 7 and founder of her own entertainment and business management firm, Business Beyond the Ball, Swann has been Anthony’s vital counterpart for well over a decade. A seasoned business strategist for global brands and talent, Swann brings an unrivaled level of knowledge and expertise to the company.
Anthony originally made a name for himself in the NBA where he continues his legacy on the court today, but over the course of his career his passions and dedication beyond the court have grown into successful global companies spanning venture capital, technology, fashion, entertainment, and philanthropy. This past summer, Anthony co-founded and launched the Social Change Fund, which is dedicated to investing in and supporting organizations that advocate for the Black community, and he continues to be a leading voice at the forefront of the ongoing fight for social justice and equality for all.
