As society celebrates Black history and those who continue to make it on a daily basis, TIDAL commemorates Black culture by taking its members on a journey through decades of those influential voices within the community. Through its trademark creative editorial curation, the platform honors founding legends and today’s cultural giants, and enlightens users by showcasing Rising artists dominating various genres.
“TIDAL actually celebrates Black history all year long,” says Jason Kpana, SVP of Artist Relations at TIDAL. “Black musicians’ contributions to the industry and our daily lives are immeasurable, so we take every opportunity to nurture, spotlight, and uplift the legendary and rising acts who are pushing cultural boundaries.”
Additional programming includes:
- Rare video performances from “The Ed Sullivan Show, most notable in the bandstand era for providing Black musicians, comedians and actors the spotlight to launch their careers. For many Black audiences the program also provided the opportunity to see themselves represented on primetime television. - New Black History In the Making playlists are celebrating the next wave of emerging talent in their respective genres (R&B, Indie/Rock, Pop and more)
Primed to elevate Black artistry at every opportunity, TIDAL’s editorial programming encourages users to discover and engage with new content that educates as well as entertains. As an organic extension of TIDAL’s robust Credits feature, the Black History Month pages (Storytellers, Geniuses, Architects, Innovators, Record Labels) showcase the behind-the-scenes producers and songwriters who lit pathways toward society’s acceptance.
