Today, Spotify is launching seven new episodes of My 2020 By… , an original show in a new format that brings together music tracks with spoken word commentary from notable figures, celebrities and more in one harmonious listening experience. In continued celebration of Wrapped, top cultural figures are sharing the songs that defined their 2020. I thought you and your readers would be particularly interested in episodes from Tamika Mallory, Sylvia Obell, and Scottie Beam as they share what songs provided inspiration and got them through the year, such as “WAP” by Cardi B and Meg the Stallion, “Comfortable” by H.E.R. and “XXX” by Kendrick Lamar. Listen in as they each discuss topically issues from 2020 from Black Lives Matter to female empowerment and how music shaped those experiences.
Earlier this year, Spotify unveiled this new show format that combines music tracks and talk segments, with the tracks playing as a stream that compensates the artist as any other stream does on Spotify. Listeners can explore and interact with the music in each episode much as they would in a playlist (with the ability to directly like, save, and see more information about a track without having to leave the episode page or search for it manually).
