“‘Akira Harakiri’ is more of a cinematic approach to the Toronto trap wave that has been cultivated throughout the last decade. I wanted to bring that raw energy and fuse it with the ‘Akira’ (1988) anime universe. It’s crazy because the visuals were coming to me as I was cooking up the song, so it was a pretty wild and unique writing process. I felt that intensity and used it to create this persona while recording my vocals.”
“Akira Harakiri” follows Blues’ 2020 debut single “No Risk Involved” and its accompanied music video directed by angelicamilash. Praised by FADER, COLORS, EARMILK, and more, the track is an intrepid statement on cultural identity and stereotyping of Asian culture. Jarring and personal, “No Risk Involved” sonically blends N*E*R*D-esque guitars with cold trap drums. The song has accumulated 90K+ Spotify streams in its first month of release and landed on New Music Friday (Canada) and Fresh Finds playlists.
