If Robert Glasper made one thing clear in 2019, he doesn’t care about your feelings. Conventional standards draw boundaries and third party opinions limit possibility and that’s not the bag for one of the most influential and recognized two time Grammy-winning artists and producers of the 21st century. Last Fall, Glasper swiftly announced his newest project, the aptly titled mixtape Fuck Yo Feelings (Loma Vista Recordings), just three days before its release, launching on the first night of his unprecedented 56-shows-in-28-days run at the Blue Note in NYC. Not only did Glasper exceed any preconceived expectations around what a hybrid musical project can and should sound like, he laid the groundwork for what is now to be expected from musicians in this era; challenging genre by intertwining inspiration and ability and relying on true artistry and real-life chemistry. Bringing together a motley cast of characters that included Herbie Hancock, Yasiin Bey, YBN Cordae, Buddy, SiR, Denzel Curry, Bilal, Yebba, Baby Rose, Rapsody, Andra Day and more, the mixtape was the result of Glasper calling some of his friends and usual conspirators (Terrace Martin, Chris Dave, Derrick Hodge) to jam and record over the course of two days at a studio in Los Angeles. Today, Fuck Yo Feelings is available as vinyl and can be purchase here.

Glasper’s Blue Note run is what legendary musical moments are made from, each night featuring different guest appearances such as Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Black Thought, Esperanza Spalding, Anderson .Paak, Yebba and more, including a weekend-long tribute to the music legend J Dilla (partnering with Save The Music Foundation and benefitting their J Dilla Music Tech Grant), with tributes to Roy Hargrove, Stevie Wonder, and the original Robert Glasper Experiment. Through his Instagram stories, Glasper shared a bird’s eye view of what was happening behind the scenes on the final night; a video selfie with Dave Chapelle, Bradley Cooper, Sasha Baron Cohen and Yasiin Bey. Not many could bring some of the most elusive and exciting names in entertainment together under the same roof and on Thursday, January 23rd, Glasper will partner with Uproxx for another legendary night of performances with special guests at a sold out show at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles.
Fuck Yo Feelings is Glasper’s first release of original music under his own name since the Robert Glasper Experiment’s 2016 album. Glasper has not only been a member of other supergroups, including August Greene (with Common and Karriem Riggins) and R+R=NOW ( with (Terrace Martin, Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin, Justin Tyson), but has also played a major role in some of the most important releases of the century, contributing most notably with a major hand in Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly and most recently to Brittany Howard’s Jaime, with a laundry list in between that reads like a wish list for most artists. Glasper also scored the soundtrack for the upcoming film The Photograph starring Issa Rae, in theaters in February.
Glasper is a disruptor of the most heroic kind so it’s no surprise that the Grammy Award-winning stalwart will use his platform next week to announce some additional exciting news – stay tuned for more to be shared soon !
