Ahead of the big game, NFL Hall of Fame duo and former San Francisco 49ers stars Steve Young and Jerry Rice unveiled their sixth “8 to 80 Zone” on behalf of The Forever Young Foundation and in partnership with the YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade, Inc. on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Miami.
The “8 to 80 Zone” facility is a free resource within the YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade, Inc. for Miami area students exploring esports, production, and game development careers or who want to learn and compete with their peers locally and across the globe.
“8 to 80 Zones” are a collaboration between NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback and Founder of the Forever Young Foundation, Steve Young (No. 8), and NFL Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Jerry Rice (No. 80). These Zones create access to state-of-the-art gaming technology and levels the competitive esports playing field for youth in underserved communities, allowing them to compete on industry-leading equipment partnered with training from professional mentors across the country. Additionally, the classroom space provides students with hands-on training in broadcast production, online streaming, audio engineering, video editing, and game development.
To support this initiative, Young and Rice both received grants from the NFL Foundation as part of the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative. Launched in January 2019, Inspire Change is a platform to showcase the collaborative efforts of players, owners and the League to create positive change in communities across the country and ensure that equal opportunity becomes a reality for all. The initiative aims to enact change in three core areas: education and economic advancement, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform.
This “8 to 80 Zone” was made possible by The Forever Young Foundation, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, the NFL Foundation and NFL Inspire Change, YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade, Inc., Skillshot Media, SUP Creative Group, and Skillz. To learn more, visit: http://foreveryoung.org/charities/zone/.
