Tonight, December 9th, Spotify hosted Spotify Wrapped: The Experience, a private event at Casita Hollywood in Los Angeles. The immersive experience brought to life Spotify’s Wrapped 2019 campaign which celebrates not only the artists, songs and podcasts that soundtracked listener’s lives in 2019, but also the decade. Also celebrated was guest of honor and GRAMMY Best New Artist nominee Maggie Rogers, who wowed the crowd with a live performance and revealed her top Wrapped artist.
Celebrities in attendance at the event included Succession actor Nicholas Braun, actress Sophia Bush, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski, actress Candice King, and Bachelor in Paradise alum Demi Burnett. Immersive experiences in the transformed space included Instagrammable backdrops like LED infinity mirrors and a double-layered gold tinsel wall from which guests imaginatively emerged; the fun was captured on slow-motion video clips for social posting.
Spotify’s Global Head of Communications Dustee Jenkins took the stage to introduce Maggie Rogers, whose folk-meets-beats sound found many new listeners on Spotify this year. Jenkins pointed out that Rogers’ breakout track “Alaska” has been streamed about 100 million times on Spotify.
After performing “Alaska,” Rogers shared one of her personal Wrapped stats, telling the audience that her top artist of the year on Spotify was Sharon Van Etten. Rogers also performed her songs “Say It,” “Light On” and her newest single “Love You For A Long Time,” which she revealed she was performing acoustically for the first time live.
Wrapped stats were definitely a central theme of the event, and revealed for the first time were the top songs shared on Instagram Stories in 2019, as presented on an eye-catching video guests saw as they arrived at Casita. Those top songs are, in order: “Señorita” by Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes, “bad guy” by Billie Eilish, “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber, “7 rings” by Ariana Grande, and “Lose You To Love Me” by Selena Gomez.
The popular “Señorita,” which was the top-streamed song on Spotify globally in 2019 with more than one billion streams, was also the year’s most-shared track on Facebook Stories, followed by “Memories” by Maroon 5, “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi, “Goodbyes” by Post Malone & Young Thug, and “Fear Inoculum” by TOOL.
Guests were also invited to take home their Wrapped total minutes streamed for the year, printed on the back of hoodies customized on site.
