UNDRTD is the first Curry 7 colorway from Under Armour and Stephen Curry, and serves to recognize athletes everywhere who have ever faced doubts or setbacks.
The unseen high school point guard who led his Charlotte Christian School team to three consecutive state playoff runs. The unheeded shooter who helped his Davidson College squad topple some of basketball’s most storied programs en route to the Elite Eight. The uncelebrated NBA rookie who worked his way to two league MVPs, three championships, six NBA All-Star selections, and countless pages in the record books.
Stephen Curry has long been one of the game’s most underrated players. He’s faced an uphill battle at every level, and this week is no different. With a new challenge to conquer while simultaneously leading a young and hungry team, Stephen will undoubtedly come back to prove once again that he’s one of the best to ever step onto the court.
Stephen will continue exceeding expectations and inspiring athletes around the globe, including an unsung boys high school team in Baltimore playing to put its school and city on the map; a nationally ranked girls team currently on the mend in Washington, D.C.; and a newly assembled 3×3 women’s squad in China that is putting the game on notice.
Like Stephen, they face doubt, skepticism and sometimes, obscurity. And, like him, they embrace it. Because being underrated is a way of life. It’s a mindset. While they realize what they’re up against, they also know what they’re capable of.
As part of the Curry 7 global footwear launch, leading with the Curry 7 UNDRTD colorway, Under Armour is debuting a short film that celebrates several unnoticed champions. The video introduces three teams who embody what it means to be underrated and explores their journeys to overcome and defy even the most trying moments – when nothing is expected.
Stephen Curry shared, “The journey for the underrated can be a long and uphill road. Even in the midst of success, underrated never really leaves you. It’s always a part of you. So, I feel a real connection to these teams – the way they lace up, lean forward and drive harder to prove their worth, to show their resolve, and of course, to win.”
The video pays tribute to the Baltimore City College High School varsity boys’ team, an uncelebrated squad in a city rarely recognized for basketball; the St. John’s College High School varsity girls’ team, which is fixed on winning amid the continued recovery of its recently injured leader; and the China women’s national 3×3 team, a rising unit that not long ago acquired its first taste of victory at the highest level and who now have eyes on a world championship.
The underrated recognize the underrated. The Curry 7 UNDRTD colorway is dedicated to underestimated warrior athletes at every level. We want it to serve as a reminder of not only what is expected from the underrated, but what is unexpected from them.– Stephen Curry
