Grand Rapids rapper WALDO returns with his new album Grove, in collaboration with fellow Grand Rapids Natives SANGO & Savon and more production work from Esta, Mozaic, Simba, Kaelin Ellis.
27-year-old Kamron “Waldo” Robinson, represents the midwest city of Grand Rapids, MI. Waldo’s main source of inspiration draws from Talib Kweli to Nipsey Hussle, which molds his identity of being a lyrically focused and socially in tune artist. Waldo has accumulated over 13 million streams across platforms & headlined tours in N. America & Europe. Grove the album, encompasses the idea of growing alongside one another regardless of your circumstances. It’s his first album since his 2016’S Be Ever Wonderful and a new direction for the artist.
Across the 19-tracks WALDO takes listeners through his journey, with “No Shortcuts”, he shares, I always heard the saying “Anything worth having, you have to work for”. Every time I took the easy route towards something I wanted to accomplish it never fully reached its potential. So I never take the shortcut towards a long term goal. “Burgundy Bible” is one of his most personal tracks to date, he details things about his life from family, religion, and own personal trials. His favorite track “Kamron” flows effortlessly from the get-go with a bouncy beat and an ode to never forgetting his roots. Kings” which dropped earlier this month, was produced by Sango and Esta, and is a song about realizing self-worth but also remembering to remain humble because most kings get decapitated. Kaelin Ellis and Waldo linked up on “The Revival Interlude”, a song that serves as more of a vibe than anything else. I just wanted to breathe new life into my music and that’s what this did for me, says Waldo.
You can read about the album in his own words HERE as he breaks it down track-by-track.
Waldo has received praise from COMPLEX, The FADER, HNHH, Hypebeast, OkayPlayer and more. Recently, Sango has been featured recently on Frank Ocean’s new project IN MY ROOM and his new album “Moments Spent Loving You” with Xavier Omar dropped on RCA just last month. In the past, their track “SNS” was featured on Donald Glover’s FX Show Atlanta’s Official Soundtrack.
