PUMA is officially debuting its newest sneaker silhouette today – Rider.
A mirror between the past and future, PUMA’s relaunch of their Rider franchise is 40 years in the making. Born in 1980, the original Fast Rider launched when the sport of running started to move from the track to the street. The Rider was one of PUMA’s most comfortable yet simplistic running shoes, with a super-light design and shock absorbing Federbein outsole. Now, PUMA is revamping and transforming the original Fast Rider silhouette into two new styles: Future Rider and Style Rider.
The Future Rider ($80) is a casual-cool street style featuring a slimmer outsole, TPU heel stabilizer, and lightweight deconstructed upper with minimal padding and lining. Alternatively, the Style Rider ($100) features a silicon molded heel deco and outsole grip to reference the original Fast Rider Federbein outsole but reduced for a more subtle look. Bold color blocking and a new shock absorbing RIDERFOAM for high rebound and ultimate comfort round out new design features, available for men and women. Both styles join PUMA’s growing FUTRO (future meets retro) designs where styles from the brand’s 70+ year archives are stripped down, rebuilt, and take inspiration from new digital trends in culture from now and into the future.
To further celebrate the relaunch of this franchise, PUMA is also reissuing a limited-edition OG Pack of the original Fast Rider from 1980, available in two different color ways and retailing for $70. All styles will be available in limited quantities at select retailers and on PUMA.com and starting October 26th, as well as at ComplexCon Long Beach on November 2nd.
