Alife®, a New York City-based, multi-tasking, multi-faceted lifestyle driven company and Lee®, the iconic American apparel brand known for its quintessential workwear and timeless denim, today announce a co-branded anniversary capsule collection. The first drop will be released next month.
The collection celebrates 130 years of Lee and the 20th anniversary of Alife New York. Inspired by archival moments such as Lee’s patenting of the Union-Alls jumpsuit more than 100 years ago and being part of the New York City hip-hop scene in the 80s and 90s, this multi-denim piece capsule highlights heritage styles with an Alife twist. In 1924, the Lee 101 jean was designed to cater to the specific needs of cowboys and rodeo riders.
“As a kid, my friends and I would frequent our local Army & Navy store where there was a floor to ceiling wall of colored Lee® to choose from. We would paint the back panel of the jackets with graffiti and iron creases on the front of the jeans. As a teen growing up in New York during the B-boy/Breakdancing era of the 80’s, Lee® was part of the uniform. Lee® jeans and jackets were offered in a palette of colors, solids and pinstripes that people matched their sneakers, Le Tigré shirts and windbreakers to. Lee® was a part of the 1980’s history of New York.” – Rob Cristofaro, Founder, Alife
For added authenticity, fabric was secured from the Cone Mills Tone White Oak Plant®, the last selvedge denim mill in the U.S. It permanently closed in 2017.
As the first drop of an ongoing collaboration, the Lee x Alife Fall 2019 collection includes:
Regular Tapered Corduroy Jean & Jacket: Bittersweet and Blue Monochrome Alife® Corduroy standout pieces within the first release. With 100% Cotton and composed of 14W Corduroy, the premium sets and separates provide a colorful addition to any wardrobe.
Available at an MSRP of $150.
Regular Tapered Selvedge Denim Jean & Jacket: Inspired by Lee’s first jean, the 101Z, this set highlights the quality of selvedge denim from White Oak. Offered in medium worn and rigid worn wash, it is a limited quantity.
The jacket style is the 101K Slim Rider Jacket.
Available at an MSRP of $260, Medium Worn Jacket and $240, Medium Worn Jean.
The Buddy Lee Tee: The White and Black Buddy Lee Tees are an ode to the Buddy Lee, the advertising mascot and promotional item used by Lee from 1920 – 1962 and was briefly brought out of retirement from 1998 until the mid-2000s. Alife admired the excellence in advertising and branding that the doll represents, and has dressed him up in a New York uniform with an Alife Core Logo hoodie and the Alife/Lee Selvedge Denim set to bring him into 2019.
Available at an MSRP of $49.
Alife/Lee Pullover Hoodie: Made out of 100% cotton, rib and draw cord, the Khaki hoodie is a nod to the ubiquitous Lee leather patches located on every Lee denim jacket and jeans.
Available at an MSRP of $138.
“The collaboration between Lee and one of the original NYC street culture brands is a terrific match,” says Chris Waldeck, Global President, Lee. “Alife has such a strong reputation for being in touch with the roots of downtown style, and the intent of unique Americana at its most authentic is exactly what we’re excited to deliver. The Lee® x ALIFE collection is a limited edition model designed for collectors, aficionados, and trend setters. “
The collection will be available in-store at Alife Rivington Club (158 Rivington St., New York, NY 10002) as well as on www.alifenewyork.com and www.lee.com on October 10, 2019 and select Urban Outfitters will offer the collaboration later that month. Prices range from $49 – $260.
