After months of teasing on social media, Kanghyuk and Reebok officially unveiled their limited run sneaker “SRS Sole Fury” s drop coming out of Reebok’s “Advanced Concepts” team, at H. Lorenzo in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, May 24th in collaboration with D /ARK, with an installation that saw the entire store’s special installations room covered with airbags fabric and a life-size “Artificial Humanoid” suspended in the middle, an event and an early release of a few, out of the 27 pairs in total that will be available to buy worldwide. The collaboration marks the final installment in Reebok’s “Advanced Concepts” SS19 celebration of the Sole Fury and its corresponding #SplitFrom campaign, where the brand tapped some of the world’s most renowned craft oriented designers to create exclusive, limited run, handmade collections of deconstructed Sole Fury silhouettes.
Reebok’s Sole Fury originally debuted in the FW18 season and is a performance-rooted silhouette that gives a modern take on the brand’s original and iconic split-sole offering from the 90’s, the Instapump Fury. Sole Fury’s #SplitFrom campaign is a celebration of all those who possess the spirit and confidence to defy convention in order to push boundaries and ultimately, drive culture.

In SS19, Reebok’s new Advanced Concepts program gave three visionary designers Helen Kirkum, 1KCorp, and Kanghyuk, the creative freedom to take the Sole Fury silhouette as their canvas and build, create and customize new individually handmade shoes for consumers to buy in exclusive, limited quantity. The resulting one of a kind shoes bring to life the #SplitFrom mentality and embody both Reebok’s daring and innovative heritage paired with each designer’s unique aesthetic.
Speaking to their collaboration with Reebok, Kanghyuk Choi and Sanglak Shon shared the process of infusing Reebok’s Sole Fury silhouette with Kanghyuk’s signature craftmanship using airbags. “We designed the Kanghyuk x Reebok Advanced Concepts Sole Fury by using parts of the car airbags material we use in our ready to wear collection. Pieces of the airbag have been patch-worked together randomly over 3 layers, where the under layer forms the body, on the middle layer a long leftover airbag material is attached – folded – laser cut live and, finally the on upper layer, the parts are stitched together using the brand’s signature contrast stitching. Each shoe has its own individual number to reflect the uniqueness of the hand making process.”
