This week, Black Lives Matter Global Network partners with Frieze NY, the art fair that showcases the world’s leading contemporary and modern galleries and artists, continuing its expansion into the contemporary art world. BLM’s presence will celebrate its collaboration with Black Panther icon Emory Douglas, which incorporates limited edition prints, of the important work, “We Shall Survive Without A Doubt”, along with an accompanying video of Mr. Douglas describing his work and his partnership with Black Lives Matter Global Network. The BLM x Emory Douglas display will be open to fair goers starting tomorrow, May 2nd through Sunday, May 5th at Randall’s Island Park in NY in the Reading Room lounge area for viewing from 11am-7pm.
In celebration of the 5th year anniversary of #BlackLivesMatter, BLM launched a collaboration with legendary Emory Douglas in 2018 with exclusive, limited edition of numbered, signed prints of Douglas’s “We Shall Survive Without A Doubt,” currently sold out on #BLMShop. BLM is inspired by Douglas’s beloved piece and its commitment to centering Black life, love, joy and service. First seen in 1971 on the back cover of The Black Panther Monthly, Issue #30, Douglas’ iconic collage features Black Panther cubs in their full joy, experiencing the revolutionary social programs the Panthers created for the Black community.
Black Lives Matter Global Network launched BLM Arts+Culture platform last year as a dedicated destination to celebrate the impact of Black innovators in visual arts, literature, music and fashion. With BLM Arts+Culture, the movement has expanded to become a platform for art, culture, and fashion, launching collaborations with iconic artists and designers including pop art artist Hebru Brantley, Black Panther icon Emory Douglas, CFDA winner Telfar and more. As a part of BLM Arts+Culture initiative, BLM is passionate about bringing healing and justice to grief-stricken communities and created a BLM art show and healing space at 2018 Complexcon and Miami Art Basel’s NADA and Prizm fairs with featured experiences such as interactive art, acupuncture, a pocket park and live performances.
