In 2019 Reebok is celebrating the silhouettes that have defined sneaker culture for decades: the Club C, Classic Leather and Workout.
The Classic Icons Campaign distills the democratic principles of these original Reebok Classic sneakers through the DIY attitude and offbeat aesthetic of critically-acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Dexter Navy. One of today’s most sought after creatives, Navy’s taste for the offbeat remains a constant throughout his work, with a distinctly psychedelic thread running through his films.
Commenting on the most important thing he’s learned on his journey so far, Navy stresses the importance of staying authentic to your artistic vision, “Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks because as long as it feels right to you then you are being true to you which is the most important mind set to me.”
Shot against a series of curated backdrops that reflect the subtle identities of each silhouette, the campaign features a series of street-casted creatives who are constantly redefining the parameters of ‘classic’ in their respective lives. Those featured in the campaign include Internet Baby, Ama Elsesser, Brazil, Callum S.A.I.N.T.F.U.C.K, Emilia Tapioca, Jamie Strub, Silvan Unlocked, Thomas Forbes, Wenchu, Zac Zoohariah and PGIRL. Ultimately, they determine that classic can mean many things, but at its core, it means to be “authentic, unique and ahead of its time – it’s something that’s lasting.”
Navy directly pulls each individuals’ raw energy into the campaign by shooting each subject through a different lens, with each frame balancing the creative edge of its subject alongside the simplicity of the timeless white sneaker.
