Today, the world’s biggest global DJ competition, Red Bull Music 3Style, crowned DJ J. Espinosa as the winner of the 2019 Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Championship. This year, over 1,200 DJs applied to be part of the competition with hopes of representing their nation in Taipei.
DJ J. Espinosa of San Francisco, CA is the hometown DJ for the Oakland Raiders and a veteran 3Style DJ having won the USA national titles in both 2015 and 2018. Espinosa looked back at his 2015 finals in Japan and said, “I learned a lot from my mistakes in 2015, so this year I went back to the drawing board and worked hard to improve my set. It was an amazing experience performing in Taipei and being able to play music that represented my hometown, the Bay Area.”
Returning to judge this year’s World Finals were turntable veterans DJ Jazzy Jeff, Skratch Bastid, DJ Craze, Nina Las Vegas, and DJ Nu-Mark. Special guests who attended include Grandtheft, as well as past 3Style champions Shintaro, DJ Byte, Four Color Zack and more. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the judging panel had a tough decision to make with amazing sets by all six finalists, with special callouts to DJ Fummy of Japan in second place and DJ Trapment of Canada in third place.
DJ J. Espinosa not only won over the judges, but the crowd as well with groundbreaking beats, unique tracks and unbeatable skill. DJ Jazzy Jeff said, “J is going to make a great addition to our team of champions.”
After a truly epic weeklong event that featured daily music workshops with the judges, dinner sets each night to sunrise each morning, and a 3Style shop on the 10th floor lobby – all within the W Hotel Taipei, the competition united people from all over the world to pursue one common mission: to #PlayWithMusic. 3Style aims to push DJ culture forward and champion the fun of throwing the best parties. Red Bull Music 3Style took over the streets of Taipei and it all culminated at national landmark and cultural epicenter, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.
