As the 2019 NBA All-Star Game approaches tip-off, wanted to share the story behind Joel Embiid’s custom footwear on-court tonight.
- Legendary footwear customizer Dez Customz went to the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia to learn directly from the kids what Joel means to the city, why Joel has inspired them and why they are thankful for his continued support. Those words and their designs have gone directly onto the shoes that Joel is wearing tonight.
As a follow up to the reveal of Stephen Curry’s All-Star Game Curry 6 colorway, sharing a new piece of fun content – a mockumentary! – that tells the story behind that “fateful” night on Stephen Curry’s 21st birthday and the prank that inspired his Curry 6 Coy Fish colorway.
Joel Embiid, a Cameroonian national, has quickly become a face of the Sixers and beloved figure within Philadelphia. His playful demeanor and world-class basketball ability has brought the Sixers to national prominence, but it is his commitment to the underserved youth of Philadelphia that has endeared him the most to the community. Recognizing his connection to the kids and how they inspire him every night on the court, Joel’s custom UA Anatomix Spawn All-Star Game player exclusive (PE) isn’t just for the kids – it was made by them.

Off the court, Stephen has demonstrated he’s humble, joyous and grateful for everything in his life. But spend some time around him and you might get caught up in one of his famous schemes – at his core, Stephen is a savage prankster, who loves to stir the pot and add some lighthearted mischievousness to any situation.
The coy, playful personality that friends and family now know all too well can be traced back to Stephen’s time at Davidson College in North Carolina. This particular prank occurred during Stephen’s junior year, while he was out with his teammates on his 21st birthday.
