Filling Pieces introduces its first new silhouette for SS19. Prior to the release of the complete SS19 ‘Age of Imagination’ collection, they are debuting the first drop of this new product line with the Race Runner Jet Vesta – which is part of their seasonal capsule program that consists of a series of separate releases that enables their designers to explore innovative designs irrespective of the current collection theme.
Inspired by a trip to Tokyo, the Filling Pieces design team set out to design the ultimate city shoe for the ‘always on’ lifestyle of modern individuals. The goal was to create the lightest shoe they’d ever created, something with the everyday performance to meet the demands of urban living, yet with a refined and classic athletic look.
It wasn’t until the discovery of Livetech – a super lightweight rubber made of TPU and EVA developed in Italy – that they found a technology good enough to build the lightweight sneaker they’d envisioned. Before long, the in-house team designed the ‘Jet’ sole that was key to the Vesta’s design. Taking design cues from the tennis world, the ‘Jet’ features a wide footbed for added stability, alongside lateral and medial hollowing to increase flexibility. It is the lightest sole unit Filling Pieces has ever made.
With such a lightweight sole, they needed to create uppers that felt weightless on the foot. They turned to athletic mesh for its absorbent and breathable properties. A minimal nubuck overlay works in tandem with a heel protection unit on the ‘Jet’ sole to keep the foot locked in, whilst adding a touch of luxury and a contemporary runner aesthetic.
In homage to minimalistic aesthetics, Filling Pieces went with sophisticated branding leaving just a subtle tonal logo embossment on the sole and a woven tongue tab. They have stayed true to the FP aesthetic with stitched detailing that follows the organic lines of the sole. Filling Pieces have chosen to release the Race Runner Jet Vesta in three monotone color-ways, each with contrasting material detailing – white, grey and black. They felt these color combinations were a perfect reflection of the city environments the shoe was designed for.
The seasonal capsule program has been reserved for only a select few retailers globally. Produced in extremely limited numbers, the Race Runner Jet Vesta will, amongst others, be exclusively available at:
Galeries Lafayette in Paris
United Arrows Monkey Time in Tokyo
A limited number of the Race Runner Jet Vesta sneakers is also AVAILABLE NOW via the Filling Pieces website at www.fillingpieces.com.
