Bronx Bred, Cardi B is on top of the world and she has very much earned every bit of her success. Her hit ‘Bodak Yellow’ broke almost every record that comes to mind and she has this producer to thank, J. White. He produced the chart-topping hit which arguably put Cardi B on top of the female rap game and her reign has yet to let up. Not only did he produce Cardi’s first #1 single but he also produced her 2nd single with ‘I like it’ which is off her debut album ‘The Invasion Of Privacy’ and features Bad Bunny and J. Balvin. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100, giving Cardi her 2nd number one which is the most for a female rapper in the chart’s history.
We got a chance to catch up with J. White at the BET Hip Hop Awards to talk about the success of both singles and what he looked forward to the night of the show. Get into the interview below.
RESPECT.: How excited are you to be at the BET Hip-Hop Awards?
I’m very excited this is my second year, this is real surreal. It’s crazy.
Who are you most excited to see perform tonight?
WEEZY F. Baby!
What can you say Lil Wayne has influenced with Hip-Hop?
I mean we here now, all of us have watched Wayne when he was younger until now. He’s influenced everything from beats to slang. “Bling Bling” do we still say that right now? I still say it, I don’t have none yet, but next year I might.
How does it feel to see the success of ‘I Like It’ after the phenomenal success of ‘Bodak Yellow’ ?
I was here last year with ‘Bodak Yellow’ and now I got ‘I Like It’ I was like dang this is crazy #2. It feels good to be the only person to help give her two number ones in history. A female rapper that’s crazy to me.
