NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett inspires students at Ralph Bunche Academy in Oakland as a part of And1’s “Paint the Park” nationwide movement, an initiative aiming to improve basketball court conditions for youth in underserved communities. Garnett’s tie to the tour stems from his humble beginnings as a youngster playing street ball at his local park, which is why he and Turner Sports teamed up with the brand to refurbish parks, such as Oakland’s DeFremery Park.
AND1, a premier basketball footwear, apparel, and accessories brand, is finalizing the next locations for its “Paint the Park” tour after successfully launching the initiative at its first stop, DeFremery Park in Oakland, California. What was once a typical, inner city basketball court is now a vibrant mural for Oakland youth to hone their skills at their local park, fostering a safe environment for the next generation of players.

Hundreds of youth attended the unveiling of Oakland’s DeFremery Park, which was the first stop for AND1’s “Paint the Park” nationwide tour. Thanks to the brand’s partnership with NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett and Turner Sports, Oakland youth broke in their new set of hoops, which features a mural painted by Bay Area-based collective of artists, The Illuminaries, while Garnett hosted his TNT show, “Area 21.” AND1 is aiming to give parks across the country ultimate makeovers with new, noticeable upgrades and additions through its initiative.
