We caught up with the hip-hop legend to talk about the campaign, his favorite 90’s sneaker and much more. Get into the interview below.
How did you feel when Foot Locker reached out to you to do the ‘Discover Your Air’ Campaign?
I felt honored man especially I knew it was a 90’s hip-hop theme and a collaboration between Foot Locker and Nike, the air-max series the air-max plus the 97’s, the 95’s and you know I’m a sneaker collector so apart of the agreement was ‘I need those sneakers early’ (laughs). So they gave me a pair early.
So you’re in the cab ride with some familiar faces in Sheck Wes, Haha Davis & LGP Qua, how was that?
We got like a karaoke 90’s cab ride, we got the young boys we put them up to the task to do the karaoke Haha did a little better than Sheck Wes you know but it was all in good fun. I can’t even do Naughty By Nature it’s 2018, I can’t do Treach (Laughs). It was all in good fun.
What Should fans expect from the ride?
A whole bunch of fun, a whole bunch of laughs taking a trip back in time in the 90’s era and hearing joints like ‘Mass Appeal’ Flo Joe from Fat Joe or records you use to hear banging on your radio back in the 90s. So it’s crazy because Foot Locker been here since the 90’s and they been doing collabs with air-max since then so to bring it back full circle is really, really dope!
Which sneaker from the 90’s is your favorite sneaker?
That’s a hard one. My favorite sneaker in life is the Air Force and out of this collabo the air-max 95.
In your opinion, which NBA player in the 90’s had the best signature sneaker?
Wow! I think I said Barkley, really the Jordan’s was the best sneakers. If you say which one besides Jordan I would say Barkley.
