Red Bull Music is proud to announce Hollerboard Redux, the first Philadelphia-based show in their 2018 Red Bull Music Presents series, which highlights creative communities across the United States.
Taking over the entirety of Warehouse on Watts on September 28th from 8pm and running all night long, Red Bull Music Presents: Hollerboard Redux will revisit the unique culture, artists and music which originated from the legendary Hollerboard forum. Red Bull Music Presents: Hollerboard Redux pays homage to the pivotal music forum by reuniting some of Hollerboard’s most renowned alumni including A-Trak, Spank Rock, 2¢ (Four Color Zack & Craze), Cosmo Baker, Nick Catchdubs, Low Budget, Dirty South Joe, Jubilee, and Dave Nada.
Now defunct, the Hollerboard was an antecedent to the current age of SoundCloud streaming, taking its moniker from Hollertronix, a group that consisted of DJ duo Diplo and Low Budget as they made names for themselves early in their career with underground parties and raucous mixtapes. Hollerboard was a very unique, online gathering place for DJs, producers, promoters, and party kids to come together to share music, roast friends, and connect over a shared love for cross-genre mash-ups and dance music. The conversations and mixes also found its place IRL with Hollerboard influenced parties originating from Philadelphia, spreading across the United States and the world, giving birth to underground parties that you would only know about unless you were on the Hollerboard platform.
“Online interactions often turned into offline parties and collaborations, and there were plenty of bookings, label signings, tours, and even some relationships, that arose from the forum,” said Jubilee.
Hollerboard effectively influenced countless dance music scenes in the United States. The community that developed out of the Hollerboard and subsequent Low Budget & Diplo-hosted Hollertronix parties would go on to become some of dance music’s most illustrious luminaries: A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs founded Fool’s Gold Records in 2007; Diplo would go on to become one of the most dynamic producers in music while leaving a trail of Hollerboard gems in his wake including early Santigold collaborations and the Grammy-nominated “Paper Planes” track featuring M.I.A.; other Hollerboard alum and current dance music deities include Flosstradamus, DJ Sliink, Four Color Zack, Spank Rock, Skeet Skeet as well as Philly’s own Cosmo Baker, Dirty South Joe, and Low Budget.
“The Hollerboard was an online headquarters for DJ’s, particularly ones who were interested in mixing all genres, to come together and exchange what they were working on,” said Low Budget. “It was all a reflection of what was happening at underground parties in Philadelphia at the time – a frenetic combination of hip hop, indie rock, and dance music scenes that came together to form an online and IRL movement that caught fire globally. We’re going to bring back the magic of Hollerboard for one night only in the city that started it all.”
