This latest collaboration sees the adidas Originals team join forces with Oyster Holdings, the Los Angeles-based lifestyle brand who have been quietly revolutionizing the concept of the tracksuit since 2014. Their mantra is ‘travelling is a sport’.
The adidas Originals by Oyster Holdings release embodies both the travel and sport elements that are key to the brand. Delving into the adidas archives, they draw on the terrace culture and heritage designs beloved of die-hard travelling sports fans. Each piece of apparel along with the two footwear styles come together as a luxurious and laidback ‘uniform’, perfectly suited to a 48-hour excursion to one of this summer’s major sporting events.
Based on the original German Army Trainer (GAT), a staple of early terrace culture, the Oyster Holdings version of the adidas Army sneaker is rendered in luxurious full grain leather and features a 70s-inspired retro tongue. Meanwhile, their version of the Twinstrike captures the progressive features of early 2000s sneaker innovation, rendered in brilliant white and offset by the multi-coloured pods on the midsole.
The core of the apparel offering is inspired by the shirts worn by soccer referees, refined and elevated in true Oyster Holdings style. The minimalist styling again sits in contrast to the bursts of brightly colored three-stripe motifs, as well as the distinctive use of technical nylon panelling.
Oyster Holdings Creative Director, Woodie White, says of the collection ‘Our inspiration is everything you need for 48-hours of travel. To meet this objective we created “the 48-Hour Pack” consisting of a convertible nylon jacket to vest that is water resistant, a two way pant (from traditional hem to cinched leg) and matching pullover top, swim short (fully lined and made for water to street), foldable “festival hat” with neck protector, reversible hoodie (nylon one side, knit inside with three colorful stripes), passport short sleeve tee, passport long sleeve tee, a travel ready white leather BW Army sneaker inspired by a ’70s vintage design for the German army with multi-color trifoil, and the action ready Oyster “Twinstrike” ADV in white with multi-color podded midsole.
adidas x Oyster Holdings will be available for purchase on September 28th.
