STAMPD and PUMA will launch their commemorative 88-18 sneaker this week in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic PUMA Suede. The Suede made its debut in 1968, quickly becoming a gamechanger in sport and culture. From track stars to trap stars, from basketball courts to b-boys’ cardboard, the Suede is #ForAllTime.
“In 1988, 20 years after the Suede launch, I got my hands on my first pair,” Said STAMPD creative director, Chris Stamp. “The brands I’ve been fortunate to align with are brands I grew up idolizing – brands that inspired me. This one hit home and it was important to make it special from the sole to laces.”
Illustrious for revolutionizing elevated, modern streetwear, STAMPD, has remastered the Suede with clean sophistication. The result: the 88-18 Suede sneaker which takes on the characteristics of two shoes in one; the upper designed with smooth, premium suede while the lower mirrors an unfinished design with rough edges and a textured soul. Stamped on the side: everything you need to know about this one-of-a-kind piece.
“The Suede simply represents what we at PUMA stand for as a brand,” says Helmut Fischer, PUMA’s chief archivist. “Taking a standard and making it a must-have. Being iconic.”
Together, STAMPD and PUMA have expanded on a partnership and concept that celebrates the design process of two legendary brands, pushing the limits of design and innovation.
Sneaker Fanatics will have the opportunity to pre-purchase at STAMPD.com and at STAMPD’s Los Angeles boutique on July 28th ahead of the global release, August 4th.
