Looks like 2017 is going to be filled with competition and Tory Lanez started it off by dropping New Toronto 2 & Chixtape 4 marking his spot an artist. After releasing New Toronto & Chixtape 3 last year around this time, its is only right for him to continue the tradition.
Both projects were released on New Years Day giving the people the two sides of Tory Lanez that shows the beast from the heartbreaker. Tory wasn’t playing around this time around on New Toronto 2 dropping 13 new tracks including teaming up to make 2 bangers with A$AP Ferg, on “Bal Harbour” and along side Rick Ross, on “Super Freak.” Pulling out all the stops on this mixtape, Tory came with an arsenal ready to let everyone know what was good. “New Years Sauce Baby” produced by Play Picasso setting the statement that this new year might be his. With Play behind the boards you can never go wrong. As you press next down the list of tracks “DopeMan Go” was my least favorite track mainly because of Tory’s voice which doesn’t sit well with me and the semi abuse of auto tune, which isn’t anything new for Tory but this track was better off in the archives. “Talk To Me Nice Fargo Season” sets off the mixtape allowing Tory to talk that talk for 6 minutes. The 6 minute track should have been cut down in time because it just sounds like he’s trying to catch everyones attention with the production more than with what he is saying.
Tory, known for chopping up samples, has created nothing less than a masterpiece alongside his producers Play Picasso & C Sick — together they make a scary trio. ChixTape 4 contains 12 songs with classic samples including Destiny Child‘s “Proud Family” theme song, which seems to be the best track off of the whole project. From the chopped sample in the beginning too the complete switch up of instrumental,s proves to be the project’s best track. When it comes to romancing, Tory has a way with the ladies. Moving on from Keisha from Chixtape 3 to her sister, Tisha he has no problem with name dropping and coming in between sisters. Featuring Aaliyah‘s “I Don’t Wanna” sets Tory Lanez fans in their feelings, from the soothing sound of Aaliyah’s voice on the chorus in the background too Tory’s singing sets the mood for Netflix and chill. Also linking up with Jacquees, Tory gets right to business on Pretty Ricky’s “Slow grind” the duo mark there stamp in the R&B world showing what their made of putting this track as one of the top three songs on the project. As the samples kept on getting cleared, which made making records almost too easy sampling P.Diddy’s “I Need A Girl Pt 1” expresses how he needs a girl to know how he feels but deciding on who he wants to be with is more of the conflict than anything. Even though everything was on point, this track was one of the ok joints off the project.
These have been the most recent releases from the Canadian rapper since the debut of his 2016 album, Told You in August.
