[…] Vic Mensa dropped by Sway In The Morning recently to do a little #INNANETAPE promo. Probably in honor of his recent tour stint with J. Cole, Sway threw Vic the beat for one of Cole’s original noise-makers, back before Sideline Story dropped, “Who Dat.” Young Net absolutely nails the verse, throwing out a typically schizo-tempo’d verse that starts out with a beginning we’ve heard a million times before–our hero goes to the shelf, and grabs his gun. Vic then cuts this narrative short though, by having himself trip over an extension cord and bust his head open. The rest of the verse is full of memorable moments too, among them is “Cooking crack sentences, my shit to old to gentri-fix.” After his rapid-pace written is over, Vic lets of a disjointed freestyle and then without warning calls it quits. […] Vic Mensa is back with another anthem. Vic‘s signature rubber-band, over-the-margin flow and passionate, on-edge delivery (heard best before on “Time Is Money“) are in full effect here, but it’s for a different purpose: as Vic puts it, this is a “let me talk my shit,” joint. If “Did It B4” announced Vic‘s solo presence, and “Orange Soda” and “Hollywood LA” established his predominant style, “YNSP” serves the purpose of being the Chicago rhymer’s theme song. Vic‘s part of the hook is devoted entirely to the title’s acronym: “Young Net Save Peso, Young Net Save Peso,” he chants, making a play on his album title, INNANETAPE, and his crew’s name, SAVEMONEY. Eliza Doolittle‘s hook is a little lacking, if only because it doesn’t stand too far out amongst the slew of other uplifting hooks like it. There’s plenty of Vic‘s distinctly flashy showmanship to go around though: “First off tell ‘em Vic back / Bury the bullshit, niggas be signed and to be honest, yo I told No ID that shit whack / Wasn’t even tryna be arrogant, bury comparison to us, I mean it’s kinda just fact / Who could make the globe shift with a flow swish when i wrote this / I was on a plane feeling like David Blaine, blow ‘em out the water when they try to put me in a box / Box with god when i throw fists.” It’s hard to flow over a Freddie Gibbs instrumental and carve out an equally impressive lane for yourself, but Vic did it. Also, if you’re seeing J. Cole and Wale anytime soon, you’re in to be rocked by Vic in the opening act. […]
