It’s an odd fact to realize, and one that might be a hard pill to swallow for those who push for “real hip-hop,” but Kendrick Lamar occasionally is, and could have easily for his whole career been a party rapper. “Fuckin’ Problems” introduced this possibility, with Kendrick forgoing whirling sagas of abuse for “Girh, I know you want dih dihh,” and since then he’s been on everything from the “R.I.P.” remix to this. Now, here we are at “Do Yo Gudda,” which features a masterfully bouncy and entertaining verse from K.Dot, who clearly loves the role of party maestro, so those who want him to stick to “ill lyricism” should get used to this, because he’s damn great at it.
Anyways, apparently Hitta J3 is a thing, and he’s a pretty good one. This song is catchy, and if Kendrick’s hints at a dance are any indication, there should be a (instructional) video coming soon. Until then, good luck getting “Do Yo Gudda” out of your head.
