Drake Reveals Why He Walked Out of Vibe Interview

A few months ago, rumors began popping up that Drake stormed out of his Vibe cover shoot. Vibe’s Lola Ogunnaike told AllHipHop that Aubrey was over eight hours late for the shoot, wasn’t feeling the style choices and eventually hopped in the car and left. Now, in his new interview with The Guardian – in which he discusses being emotionally vulnerable in his music and the hate he receives — Drake tells his side of things.

“I didn’t like the way I was treated,” he says. “They tried to put a damper on my character, I guess because I didn’t play according to their rules.” Drake believes that publications tend to use his forthrightness against him. Read the full excerpt below:

Sometimes, he says, his honesty backfires, and a publication will use his candour against him. “You do get certain publications in the States where, if things don’t go according to plan,” he says, “they flip the story and it becomes very negative.”

Recently he stormed out out of an interview with Vibe magazine. “I didn’t like the way I was treated,” he says. “They ran this story about how I’m the most bitter guy, and my life is in turmoil. And I’m, like, a very happy 25-year-old kid living an amazing life. They tried to put a damper on my character, I guess because I didn’t play according to their rules.”

The cover eventually went to his fellow YMCMB artist, Nicki Minaj. You can read The Guardian’s full interview with Drake here.
