LulShawn, who is an upcoming artist emerging from Southeast DC, showed everybody that rappers from his area can create meaningful content too. His new mixtape Life Before Success (available via Spinrilla) is the truth.

On this project, LulShawn shares with his fans how it was growing up in darkness, violence and being forced to fend for yourself at an early age — it would create a lot of anger inside of anyone. This is something he had to face from very little, seeing his mother struggle to take care of him.

People in his community that he encountered along his journey didn’t make things any better due to their ‘fakeness’. All they did was turn this young rapper into a hardcore savage. LulShawn had big dreams and goals he wanted to accomplish to escape battling wars in the streets, but unfortunately the cards he was dealt didn’t have it set up for him like that.

Despite this, LulShawn ended up achieving a lot of success in his rap career. As he continued to grow and remain focused, his circle began to change for the better. The best is yet to come for this incredible star, but he wants all his fans to know that his time is coming.

My favorite songs off the mixtape are “Hard Times”, “Lonely”, and “Stand My Ground” because I can relate to his pain. I know what it’s like to struggle, have people leave you for dead, and take your kindness for weakness.
