If you’re not familiar with Tony Williams, you’re probably familiar with his work — he’s probably best known for collaborating with first cousin Kanye West since ‘Ye’s debut album College Dropout. With that said, he’s been creating timeless music of his own; last week, he added to that catalog with a new EP titled The 7th Day.
Tony explained the 5-track offering, which — in addition to seeing a feature from Kanye — also features some other notable names:
I’ve often pondered if it was an obvious breach between old school and the new generation or if we’re merely a broad line of demarcation. Whatever it is, I’ve always felt I was the bridge that brought them together. Who else would put Cyhi over “folk/rock”, bring Stokley and Raheem Devaughn together over a No I.D. beat or pair Pharoahe Monch with the newest of new emcees (Bobby Sessions) over a distorted guitar. Hopefully, this project will engage some new ears from both generations.
Stream The 7th Day, as well as a trailer for the soon-come visual for “Money,” below. The project is said to precede Tony’s forthcoming album To Gain The World.
