It’s a beautiful time to be making Hip-Hop in the D.C. area right now, thanks to the plethora of different styles making waves through the city. Currently, artists like Shy Glizzy, GoldLink and Logic are trailblazing the path opened wide by Wale, with young guns WillThaRapper and Chaz French following closely behind. As a result, the spotlight is on the diamond metropolis as many look to see who’s the next to keep the progression going.

From Uptown D.C. to Montgomery County, Maryland, LoudCru (led by E Major and Mak Cash) are making a case for themselves as the next to blow — 2015’s CruLand, as well as countless cuts and soundbeds courtesy of E Major himself, are perfect examples to check out. Now, MakCash breaks out solo with his new EP I AM ME, an 8-track offering that also sees appearances from E4 Rmdacity and (definite lyrical standout) Bou.

Most of I AM ME sees Mak Cash on his melodic vibe, a perfect soundtrack for the hot Summer (lead single “Chosen” is a sure-fire radio hit and chart-topper)…it’s really no surprise, given his Jamaican bloodline — the musicality is practically embedded in his soul. On project standout “Loud Lords” (featuring E Major, who also handles a bulk of the production alongside Obi and Chooky), Mak certainly solidifies his ability to bring the harder-hitting bars as well:

Loud Jefe, let me show you bout this loud life
Take a trip baby, I can show you what the clouds like
They call me Mr. “Tell that b***h to get her mind right”
Blowing outdoor, n***a you can get your loud right, whoa!
