Everything DJ Khaled puts out goes number one nowadays. In regards to his latest run (for the forthcoming album Grateful): first came the Beyoncé and JAY Z-assisted “Shining” followed by the even bigger single and posse cut “I’m The One,” which featured Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne. Surprisingly, Khaled’s latest collaboration with Drake — titled “To The Max” — hasn’t followed behind in that achievement (yet)…but there’s still plenty of time.
This week, Khaled continues his penchant for instant hit records with the sultry, grown-and-sexy “Wild Thoughts,” which features current R&B staples Rihanna and Bryson Tiller and takes directly from Santana‘s 2000 single “Maria Maria.” Shortly following the song’s premiere came it’s super-sexy visual (directed by Colin Tilley), a perfect ode to hot Summer nights.
Khaled explained the Rihanna collaboration to Entertainment Weekly, which was apparently a long time in the making:
Seven, eight years I’ve been trying to do this. I always put the kites out there that I wanted to work with her. But at the same time, while I was putting the kites out there, I was always getting the right record ready. You’ve gotta start with the right energy to see if something comes back that’s possible.
