Back when the tracklist for Rick Ross‘ Rather You Than Me was released, many were speculating that a song titled “Idols Become Rivals” could be about Birdman, who Ross has expressed disdain for in the past over long-standing legal issues with Lil Wayne (Birdman later responded to Ross’ comments on a surprisingly peaceful note). We now know that those rumors were true.
Thanks to the album’s availability internationally (and, subsequently, Genius), we now get to see exactly what Ross has to say about the matter over wax….and it’s pretty brutal:
I used to see you n***as on my TV screen
And wondered what was life like, was it all a dream?
And then I met you out on LiveNation dates
Came to the realization that your watch was fake
Damn… you nearly broke my heart
I really thought you n***as really owned them cars…
And it continues…
Rap game, so much f*** s*** done
That’s why this .45 in my Trukfit trunks
F*** a skateboard, I went and got a Wraith, boy
Catholic record labels, n***as gettin’ raped, boy
Birdman’s a priest, moans in his synagogue
Publishin’ is a sin, repent, forgive me, Lord
Look you in your eyes, n***a, ‘fore I say good night
And pray that Mannie Fresh’ll get to see the light
Knew that you would never visit BG
Turk came home, take that boy a three piece
I pray you find the kindness in your heart for Wayne
His entire life, he gave you what there was to gain
I watched this whole debacle so I’m part to blame
Last request, can all producers please get paid?
Knowing the gravitas of what will come from such a pointed track, Ross has since taken to social media to further explain why he’s dissing the Cash Money head honcho in the first place (UPDATE: Lil Wayne responded to this shortly thereafter):
Better You Than Me officially hits the U.S. at midnight (pre-order here).
